In a recent interview for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Pedro Pascal clarified the definition of the term “c—y” to Vanessa Kirby. This upcoming superhero film, set to hit theaters later this month, represents Marvel’s second reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise. In the movie, Pascal plays Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, and Kirby portrays his character’s wife, Sue Storm, who is best known as Invisible Woman.
Pedro Pascal gives a lesson to Vanessa Kirby in a new interview
In their latest chat with Pedestrian TV, the two stars shared some kind words. Specifically, Vanessa Kirby complimented her fellow actor from Materialists. During this conversation, the interviewer mentioned that she has gained popularity on social media for her strong and fierce appearance, which he humorously described as a “force field snatched sassy fierceness face.
Caught off guard by the interviewer’s remark and puzzled about the meaning of “cy”, the actress from Napoleon responded tentatively, “I’m not sure if that’s a positive comment.” Later on, Pedro Pascal clarified, confirming it as “a positive thing.
In simpler terms, a “C y face” symbolizes being fierce, amazing, and stunningly beautiful. It’s positive, it’s positive, was the actor’s explanation for the term’s significance when he spoke about it.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine, linguist Adam Aleksic expressed that the term “ct” could be seen as a sort of “alternative term for camp,” and it also signifies something that is “hip or trendy, but in an ironic way.
Aleksic explained to the media that the term originally held misogynistic connotations. But in the 1980s, it was reclaimed within the Black and Latino queer ballroom or drag subculture. In this community, racial groups were structured into various “houses”. He mentioned that among these houses, Blacks and Latinos commonly shared a unique slang language.
Aleksic explained that this language was initially linked together to establish a distinct linguistic identity, diverging from the traditional English language norms predominantly associated with straight white cultures. In essence, this new language served as an expression of identity.
Additionally, the linguist elaborated on how the term “c” became commonly used. He discussed a concept called context collapse, where people unaware that the term is not intended for them repeat it after hearing others use it. He emphasized that social media has hastened the process of normalizing or depriving the word of its offensive connotation.
On July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits the big screen. Alongside Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, this movie features Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as well.
