As a devoted fan who’s spent countless hours immersed in the gritty world of the Peaky Blinders, I can hardly contain my excitement! After what felt like an eternity, production on the long-awaited movie has finally kicked off. The sight of Thomas Shelby once again gracing our screens, played brilliantly by Cillian Murphy, is a heartening reminder that we’re one step closer to unraveling the intricate web of secrets that lies within the Shelbys’ world.
Netflix officially confirmed that filming for the long-awaited movie adaptation of Peaky Blinders, following a hiatus of more than two years since the conclusion of its six-season TV series, has commenced. The streaming platform has also unveiled the first image from the production, offering fans their initial glimpse of Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Thomas Shelby.
Who’s involved in the Peaky Blinders movie?
The upcoming film, often referred to as an extended chapter in the critically acclaimed mafia tale, is being helmed by director Tom Harper based on a script penned by Steven Knight. As of now, specifics about its storyline are being kept secret. Murphy will be joined by a fresh lineup of esteemed actors, including Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs). It’s yet to be decided if any of the original series’ key players will reprise their roles for this movie.
Steven Knight, the show’s creator, expressed his excitement as cameras began filming the next installment of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ saga, which takes place during World War II. In a statement (via Tudum), he said, ‘Since the nation is at war, it follows that our Peaky Blinders are as well.’
The movie “Peaky Blinders” is made by Knight, Murphy, Patrick Holland, and Guy Heeley. Moreover, it’s being overseen by Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Caryn Mandabach, and Andrew Warren in an executive producer role. This production is a collaboration between Netflix and BBC Film. As of last December 2023, there were reports that Netflix plans to create two spin-offs of “Peaky Blinders.” The first one is expected to be set during the mid-20th century, while the second one focuses on the early life of Helen McCrory’s character, Polly Gray.
