Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Movie With Leonardo DiCaprio Has a $140+ Million Budget

As a seasoned gamer of both the silver screen and the gaming console, I must admit that my heart skips a beat when I hear about a new project from the masterful hands of Paul Thomas Anderson. With a budget of over $140 million, this upcoming production is shaping up to be nothing short of epic!

Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie has a budget of over $140 million.

In January 2024, Anderson began shooting his upcoming film, tentatively known as the BC Project. This production will feature stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and others.

As per a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, it’s said that Anderson received approximately $140 million to produce his upcoming movie.

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, “The budget for this project is over twice what Anderson usually works with.” The most profitable film in Anderson’s career is 2007’s There Will Be Blood, which earned $76 million at the box office. Warner executives argue that DiCaprio’s success at the box office justifies the high budget for Anderson.

DiCaprio is reportedly making approximately $20 million for starring in the film.

What else do we know about the new Paul Thomas Anderson movie?

Details about the plot for Anderson’s upcoming film, tentatively titled “The Battle of Baktan Cross,” are mostly kept secret, as there hasn’t been an official confirmation of the movie’s title yet.

In the gaming world here, I teamed up with Anderson on writing the script, and together we produced this epic film. We were backed by Sara Murphy and Adam Somner – they were our partners in making this cinematic adventure come to life!

Back in ’96, I stepped into the director’s chair for the first time with a film called Hard Eight. The following year, I released Boogie Nights, which landed me a nod for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. Besides There Will Be Blood and Punch-Drunk Love, I’m also recognized for creating Magnolia in ’99, The Master in ’12, Inherent Vice in ’14, Phantom Thread in ’17, and more recently, Licorice Pizza in ’21.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming movie is set for release in US theaters and IMAX cinemas on August 8, 2025, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. This will mark the director’s debut feature film to be screened in IMAX format.
