Paul Giamatti To Play Paranormal Radio Host in New Biopic Movie From Radio Silence

Actor Paul Giamatti is set to portray the role of renowned paranormal radio host Art Bell in an upcoming biographical film produced by Radio Silence.

More recently, Giamatti was featured in Alexander Payne’s film “The Holdovers,” for which he received a Best Actor Academy Award nomination. Soon, you can catch him returning as Harold Levinson in “Downton Abbey 3,” set to premiere in U.S. theaters this coming September.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that John Giamatti is stepping into the role of Art Bell in an upcoming movie produced by Radio Silence! Major players like Amazon, Warner Bros. Pictures, and more are showing interest and placing bids for this exciting project. I can hardly wait to see it unfold!

What is the new Paul Giamatti movie about?

The movie is based on the life of the late paranormal radio host, Art Bell, who conducted his popular show ‘Coast to Coast’ from his home studio near Las Vegas. He took unfiltered phone calls for five hours every night on KNYE-FM and discussed topics such as aliens, past lives, time travel, and other extraordinary experiences reminiscent of ‘The X-Files’. An article in The New York Times reported that Bell claimed he and his wife once saw a massive triangular UFO above their car before it vanished.

The script was penned by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. Sophie Cassidy and Jeff Katz will assume the role of producers.

Radio Silence is a duo made up of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. These two have contributed segments in horror anthology films like V/H/S and Southbound, and they’ve also been responsible for full-length movies such as Devil’s Due (2014), Ready or Not (2019), Scream (2022), Scream VI (2023), and most recently Abigail (2024). They are currently working on a follow-up to Ready or Not, in which Samara Weaving reprises her character Grace.

Notably, Giamatti teames up with Stephen Asma on their podcast, “Chinwag,” to explore the depths (indeed, incredibly deep depths) of the human mind.
