Approximately a year since his last portrayal of Ocean Master, Patrick Wilson has publicly expressed his thoughts on the Aquaman series and potential future roles in James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe. Known for his role in The Conjuring, Wilson made his debut in the DC Extended Universe with 2018’s Aquaman, followed by a repeat performance in 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As the Aquaman sequel represents one of the final films within the existing continuity, fans have speculated on what a potential third installment could have meant for Patrick Wilson’s Orm. In a recent interview, the Golden Globe-nominated actor finally shared his views on Aquaman 3.
Patrick Wilson on why two Aquaman movies were enough
Though a few might’ve wished for more Aquaman movies, Patrick Wilson appears satisfied with only two installments in the series.
On the Just for Variety podcast, the 51-year-old actor, Patrick Wilson, shared his thoughts on a potential Aquaman 3. He expressed, “I don’t think I hoped for more,” indicating that he might not be keen on the idea. Despite not being against sequels, given his longtime roles in The Conjuring and Insidious franchises, he expressed reservations about reprising his character Orm in another Aquaman project.
According to Wilson, when considering Orm’s character arc – from villain in the first movie to more of a hero in the second – he isn’t sure about his role in any potential third film. He hadn’t agreed to participate in one, there was no disappointment, and he questions where the story could go. However, he wouldn’t be against returning to the character if the opportunity arises.
Wilson isn’t sure if he could return in James Gunn’s DCU
Later on, Patrick Wilson discussed the possibility of revisiting his character, Ocean Master, in the revamped DC Universe. The seasoned actor expressed his readiness to step back into the Aquaman role, yet he appeared more hesitant than certain about the idea. “Would I come back to it? Well, if it’s well-written. Who’s the director? What’s the plot? He’s such a peculiar character. I don’t know how you could simply bring him in. It just seems strange to me,” Wilson stated.
He additionally pointed out the new direction taken by the DCU under James Gunn, saying, “Moreover, they have transformed the DC Universe into something entirely new. We had some great times together. It’s all good. There’s no lingering doubt or regret. If the opportunity arises again and it seems worthwhile, I would certainly consider reprising my role, but for now, I can only wait and see.
Aquaman and the Last Kingdom came out in December 2023 in the United States.
