As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that BKOM Studios has successfully met its funding target on Kickstarter for Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults, a video game version of the cherished tabletop RPG. Recently, I was fortunate enough to get an exclusive sneak peek at the game during a private demonstration at GDC, and let me tell you, it’s shaping up to be something truly special. The developers shared some fascinating insights into the game’s distinctive features and intricate mechanics, leaving me eagerly anticipating its release.
In Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults, what really caught my attention is that they opted for a real-time combat system. Most tabletop RPG-based games typically use a turn-based format, but BKOM is breaking away from the norm by incorporating an isometric camera angle and combat reminiscent of action RPGs like Diablo. You’ll be controlling a group of four characters, allowing you to swiftly switch between them during combat to launch a barrage of attacks, spells, and special abilities against your enemies.
In Abomination Vaults, you’ll find that only four character classes are available for players to choose from. However, the developers assure us that the variety within the skill trees caters to a wide range of playstyles and tactical requirements. During my observation, I noticed both a barbarian and mage class in action. What’s more, this game supports cooperative play, enabling you and another player to swap between the available characters during combat.
In Pathfinder, BKOM is focusing on the interactive storytelling element. During conversations with NPCs, players will be presented with several dialogue choices. This is common in RPGs, but what sets Pathfinder apart is that each response can be assigned to a different party member, showcasing their individual personalities. Sometimes, it’s advantageous to use diplomatic characters, but choosing a less charming character might unexpectedly lead to chaotic situations.
As an eager fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults! Although a specific launch date hasn’t been announced yet, we can all show our excitement by adding it to our wishlist on Steam. This way, we won’t miss any future announcements or updates. Stay tuned for more exciting game reveals from GDC 2025 – the world of gaming is about to get even more thrilling!
