Path of Exile 2 Early Access has been delayed — "all sorts of strange demons" in the old data

As a seasoned Path of Exile (PoE) gamer with countless hours spent battling my way through the dark and gritty world of Wraeclast, I must admit I was looking forward to the long-awaited release of PoE 2 on November 15, 2024. However, like many fellow Exiles, I received some disappointing news from Grinding Gear Games – Early Access has been delayed three weeks to December 6, 2024.

If you’ve noted down November 15, 2024, for the release of PoE 2, I regret to inform you that Grinding Gear Games has shifted the Early Access date by three weeks. The new date is now set for December 6, 2024.

PoE 2 is ready, but porting across your old items from PoE 1 is proving difficult

In a short video, Jonathan Rogers, Game Director of Path of Exile 2, spoke directly to the community to explain the news. The problem is that they want the game to have crossplay and cross-progression, and it’s especially difficult in this case because they also want users to be able to access older microtransactions from Path of Exile 1.

It implies that data from older sources, spread out over various platforms, should be linked together. As Rogers explains, this task is more challenging than it may seem at first glance.

And when you start migrating databases that are this old and with this much data, you find all sorts of strange demons in there.

Four weeks from now, I’ll be back live-streaming again! That’s when my team plans to showcase all the Early Access content we’ve been working on. Here’s crossing my fingers that the current problem gets sorted out by then.

Instead, it appears that fans are expressing gratitude rather than anger, as evidenced by their comments beneath the video, due to the transparency demonstrated by the studio.
