Actor Jim Caviezel is now getting ready to reprise his character, Jesus Christ, in the forthcoming sequel titled “The Passion of the Christ 2“, and he has shared insights on his preparations for the role.
What did Jim Caviezel say about Passion of the Christ 2?
During his latest interview on the Arroyo Grande show, Caviezel expressed his intention to savor and delight in the filmmaking process for the upcoming project compared to his experience with the 2004 film.
Caviezel expressed his desire to appreciate this one more than the last one, as he felt he went beyond his limits with the previous one. About the other one, he admitted he had worries because it wasn’t in Aramaic, saying ‘We’re not doing this.’ However, he confided that he truly trusts the additions made by Mel Gibson.
Jim Caviezel pondered over the idea that rather than writing about his experiences, he’s allowing those very experiences to serve as his journal, and he intends to make the most of this opportunity, not taking it for granted.
As a devotee, I can truly say that living through that resurrection scene was an unparalleled opportunity. Knowing full well that I might not get another chance to portray this role, I recall someone suggesting I keep a diary. I replied, “My journal is right here.” Although I remember every detail, I often wish I had jotted down some of the intense experiences I went through during that time.
In the upcoming sequel, Gibson will once again take the director’s chair, with Jim Caviezel returning to portray Jesus. The focus of this new installment will be on Jesus’ miraculous resurrection. Previously, Gibson hinted that he has collaborated on two distinct screenplays for this project. As of now, there is no set release date or distributor announced for it.
Previously this year, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Gibson expressed uncertainty about the film’s start date. He mentioned that there were numerous creative concepts for the movie that required further development.
He mentioned that he’s looking forward to some point next year. He explained that it’s a complex endeavor because it involves an acid trip experience. He continued by saying that he, his brother, and Randall have all been discussing this. They have combined their thoughts, but the project is challenging due to its intricacies. To truly convey the story correctly, he believes one must begin with the fall of angels, which means venturing into another world, another dimension. Essentially, you’re journeying to hell.
The movie titled “The Passion of the Christ” portrayed the final days leading up to Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and his life thereafter. Notable actors like Maia Morgenstern (portraying Mary), Monica Bellucci (as Mary Magdalene), Francesco De Vito (Peter), Luca Lionello (Judas), among others, were part of the cast. Despite garnering mixed opinions from critics, it managed to be a commercial triumph. The film generated a global revenue of $612 million, significantly more than its estimated budget of approximately $30 million.
