At the Wayanad Literature Festival, Parvathy Thiruvothu recently engaged in a conversation with Indian author Arundhati Roy. In this discussion, Arundhati Roy posed a question to the actress: Are young male actors in Malayalam cinema providing any assistance regarding the current situations?
In her statement, the actress from Thangalaan expressed her viewpoint that the current crop of male actors in Malayalam cinema falls short compared to their predecessors. She added that, although there’s not a significant gap between the two generations, she believes the older generation is more entrenched in upholding patriarchal structures and exhibiting misogyny.
Instead, the actress finds it disconcerting that many young actors seem indifferent to the goings-on within the industry. She expressed this concern, saying, “They have the ability to observe what’s happening around them. Some of the younger actors in the business are upset because they aren’t receiving the same advantages that the established actors did earlier.
Continuing our discussion, Parvathy expressed concerns about how numerous big-budget movies in the industry continue to celebrate ” alpha-male” personas and traditional patriarchal beliefs. She argued that these films are actually reintroducing overly masculine characters and outdated portrayals of women.
As a devoted admirer, I can say that my initial concern about potentially collaborating with certain actors was present, but now, those worries have become a thing of the past for me.
I’ve been absolutely hooked on the cinematic world lately, and let me tell you, nothing has gripped me more than the movie “Her.” As a die-hard fan, I can confidently say that Parvathy was the shining star in this production, gracing the screen as the lead actress. This captivating Malayalam anthology film brought together a stellar ensemble cast, with Urvashi, Aishwarya Rajesh, Remya Nambeesan, and Lijomol Jose all delivering outstanding performances.
The movie was a masterful exploration of five women’s lives, each hailing from diverse backgrounds and age groups. It beautifully wove together their personal and professional journeys, providing insight into the complexities and triumphs that define modern womanhood. In essence, “Her” was a powerful testament to the resilience and strength of women in today’s society.
Her was released on November 29, 2024, directly on the OTT platform ManoramaMAX.
