I’m excitedly looking forward to returning to the cinemas in February! It’s none other than “Parasite,” the brilliant black comedy by the talented South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, which has already earned multiple awards. This time, it’ll be an exclusive IMAX release, promising a truly immersive experience.
2019 saw the release of Parasite, a film that garnered widespread praise and made history by becoming the first non-English language feature to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The talented cast included Song Kang-ho (from A Taxi Driver), Choi Woo-shik (A Killer Paradox), Park So-dam (Record of Youth), Jang Hye-jin (More Than Family), Lee Sun-kyun (Project Silence), Cho Yeo-jeong (The Servant), and others.
When is the Parasite IMAX rerelease date?
To mark five years since Parasite first hit theaters, NEON will be re-releasing this highly praised movie in IMAX cinemas starting February 7. The 2019 film joins the long list of critically acclaimed films directed by Bong Joon Ho, such as Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), Mother (2009), Snowpiercer (2013), and Okja (2017). Bong Joon Ho’s next project, Mickey 17 – a sci-fi black comedy featuring Robert Pattinson – will debut in theaters on March 7.
The movie “Parasite” was awarded a grand total of four Oscars, which included the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Foreign Language Film.
The story follows two families: The Parks, who appear to have it all financially, and the Kims, who are streetwise but not well-off. Somehow, these two households become entwined, and the resourceful Kim family sees a potential opportunity. Led by Ki-woo, a college student, the Kims cleverly insert themselves into positions such as tutor and art therapist within the Park household. As time goes on, a mutually beneficial relationship develops between the families: the Kims offer luxury services that the Parks can’t seem to live without, while unknowingly supporting the Kim family financially. However, when an outsider poses a threat to the Kims’ newfound comfort, a ruthless and deceitful power struggle ensues, risking the delicate balance between the two families.
