ParaNorman Theatrical Rerelease Date Set, Alongside New Halloween Short

LAIKA, Fathom Entertainment, and Trafalgar Releasing have revealed when they will bring back the highly praised animated horror comedy ParaNorman to theaters for a special run. This announcement follows the tremendous success of last year’s 15th anniversary rerelease of Coraline, which grossed an impressive $56 million globally at box offices worldwide.

Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to prolong our collaboration with LAIIKA and reintroduce the award-winning film, ParaNorman, to American viewers this Halloween season. The movie will be available in both 2D and RealD 3D formats, along with an exclusive bonus feature for consumers titled ParaNorman: The Thrifting. According to Fathom Entertainment’s CEO, Ray Nutt, this announcement was made in a statement. Last year, the strong interest from Coraline viewers led to about 70% of the $34M+ domestic box office revenue coming from 3D screenings. Given its eerie appeal, ParaNorman seems perfectly suited for audiences to experience on the big screen later this year.

After Coraline’s theatrical rerun received an outstanding international reaction, outperforming its initial box office performance in certain markets, Trafalgar Releasing is excited to team up with LAIKA once more. This time, we will bring ParaNorman back to cinemas this Fall. ParaNorman is a film that stands out visually and emotionally, making it perfect for theater viewing – available in both 2D and stunningly remastered RealD 3D. We can’t wait for audiences worldwide to reconnect with this stop-motion classic masterpiece.

When is the ParaNorman theatrical rerelease date?

Starting from October 23 internationally and October 25 in the USA, Norman – the ghost-seeing hero of ParaNorman, will be back on big screens in an upgraded, stunning 3D version for a limited Halloween run that lasts one week. This much-loved film, which premiered in 2012, has consistently earned a “Certified Fresh” rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

As a gaming enthusiast excitedly hopping up and down in my virtual reality chair, I can’t help but share the thrilling news: Alongside the remastered version, the ParaNorman universe is expanding! A fresh spin-off short film titled “ParaNorman: The Thrifing” is joining our ranks. Finn Wolfhard and the talented Anna Kendrick will lend their voices to this adventure, with the latter reprising her role as my big sis, Courtney Babcock. This project is under the creative direction of LAIKA’s lead character designer Thibault LeClercq from a script penned by Chris Butler. While we don’t know all the juicy details yet, I can hardly contain my excitement for this thrilling journey ahead!

In 2012, an animated horror comedy titled “The Movie” was helmed by Sam Fell and Butler. This film focuses on a young boy with the unique ability to see spirits. Notable voices in this production include Kendrick, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Leslie Mann, John Goodman, Jodelle Ferland, Alex Borstein, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, among others.

ParaNorman marked a significant milestone for LAIKA, offering depth of emotion, bold visuals, and an unusual charm in every scene. David Burke, the company’s head, further stated that re-releasing this film in enhanced 3D format, alongside a fresh short film, is a chance for viewers to revisit or discover Norman’s world filled with heart and humor. Nowadays, horror movies have transformed into a cherished family tradition, and ParaNorman skillfully straddles the line between spooky and meaningful. It serves as an excellent introduction to the horror genre – a stepping stone into captivating storytelling that is equally thought-provoking as it is exhilarating.
