After debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6 last year, “The Last Showgirl” is now set to hit select Los Angeles theaters on December 13. Following this, a broader release will take place on January 10, 2025. In its recent screening at the 2024 San Sebastián International Film Festival, the movie was awarded the Special Jury Prize.
The movie, titled “Gia Coppola’s Directorial Debut,” was scripted by Kate Gersten. Alongside Anderson, the ensemble cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis portraying Annette, Dave Bautista as Eddie, Brenda Song as Marianne, Kiernan Shipka as Jodie, Billie Lourd as Hannah, and Jason Schwartzman as a film director. The production is overseen by Robert Schwartzman and Natalie Farrey, with Miley Cyrus contributing an original song entitled “Beautiful That Way” to the film’s soundtrack – a composition she both sang and wrote herself.
The movie storyline revolves around Shelley, a captivating performer in Las Vegas, whose show is at risk of shutting down after many years. Faced with this grim reality, she embarks on a journey to come to terms with her past choices and the circle of people she has nurtured, as she prepares for her next endeavor.
