It’s clear that Disney’s top brass, including CEO Bob Iger, are fully cognizant of the hurdles confronting Star Wars. The sequel trilogy didn’t strike a chord with many viewers, and subsequent series on Disney+ like The Acolyte, which was a costly flop due to its high D.E.I. expenditure, have struggled to generate interest. The latest offering, Skeleton Crew, has failed to enter the top 10 new original shows and has some of the poorest viewership numbers yet. This pattern raises questions about the future of the franchise, given the substantial budgets allocated for these productions – approximately $400 million for just two series.
