With great assurance, STARZ has approved a second season for the series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” – several weeks prior to the premiere of the eagerly awaited prequel’s debut episode.
The production for Season 2 has already started in Scotland, as confirmed by STARZ on June 23, 2025, utilizing the same filming locations where the original Outlander series was shot for more than a decade.
The prompted early renewal demonstrates the network’s dedication to growing the enchanting world developed by Diana Gabaldon, a world that has been cherished by viewers through the enduring primary show.
Two Timelines, Two Love Stories
Starting August 8, the first season unfolds, delving into the intricate love narratives of Jamie Fraser’s and Claire Beauchamp’s ancestors in Blood of My Blood>.
Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, together with Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, are set to star in a grand historical romance series that takes viewers on a journey through the tumultuous backdrop of World War I and the breathtaking landscapes of 18th-century Scotland.
“These are two fated couples who must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart”,
STARZ explains that their paths will cross in unexpected and unsuspected manners.
Filming for the first season started in Glasgow, Scotland in January 2024, however, it had to take a break because of intense winter storms. The filming eventually continued from late February and concluded in July 2024.
Significant spots encompassed Doune Castle, famously known as Castle Leoch, a memorable backdrop cherished by long-term enthusiasts of the series.
Meet the New (Or Rather Old) Generation
In the prequel, Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy take on the roles of Ellen and Brian Fraser, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine portray Julia and Henry Beauchamp. These main characters are responsible for bringing to life figures who have been significant in Outlander folklore for quite some time.
Ellen Fraser, Jamie’s mom, was admired for her passion, zest, and kindness – a woman whose spirit touched everyone she encountered. Brian Fraser, the Lord of Lallybroch, was known for his strength, fairness, and unwavering love for his kinship.
Built To Stand Alone – And Expand The Legacy
As a devoted fan myself, I can’t help but appreciate how “Blood of My Blood” skillfully blends the rich tapestry of Outlander lore with an engaging narrative that welcomes newcomers. The series serves up captivating tales of loyalty, passion, and rebellion, while delving into the backstories of characters cherished by long-time fans, making it a delightful journey for both old and new followers alike.
“This series is welcoming to viewers unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, while also providing origin stories of fan-favorite characters from early seasons”,
emphasized Kathryn Busby, STARZ’s President of Programming.
Franchise Veterans At The Helm
In the upcoming second season of the show, Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts is back at the helm, accompanied by executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg – influential figures behind the worldwide acclaim of Outlander.
The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary. Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”
said the showrunner.
Busby added:
“We’re proud to continue building on the franchise’s legacy, with Matt and our longtime partners at Sony, who have worked tirelessly to make Outlander the global phenomenon it has become.”
Are you looking forward to the spin-off or do you believe it would be wiser to prioritize wrapping up Outlander with its final season instead?
