Out of all big releases in first half of 2025, which Tamil movie did not manage to meet your expectations?

This year, Tamil cinema kicked off with an impressive array of films, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a film festival for movie enthusiasts. Although certain movies thrived, others fell short of expectations, leaving viewers feeling frustrated.

Among the most notable debuts during the first six months of 2025, which one didn’t live up to your anticipations?

Top releases from Tamil cinema in the first half of 2025

In the pulsating year of 2025, I found myself captivated by none other than the groundbreaking Tamil cinema debut in the first half – Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi. As an ardent fan, every cell in my body vibrated with anticipation as I stepped into the theater. This electrifying action-thriller, masterfully orchestrated by Magizh Thirumeni, spun a tale of a marriage on the verge of dissolution between its protagonists.

On their journey to her family’s house, the pair encounter a group of abductors who deceive and seize the woman. Although their marriage is already in shambles, the man is compelled to rescue her urgently before it’s too late.

As a dedicated follower, I found myself drawn to a film that was inspired by the American movie Breakdown. In this production, Trisha Krishnan shared the lead role, while Arjun Sarja took on the challenging position as the main adversary. Regrettably, despite the significant anticipation and delay, this highly-touted project failed to make a mark at the box office.

In April 2025, Ajith Kumar returned to the silver screen in the action-comedy film “Good Bad Ugly,” directed by Adhik Ravichandran. This movie was a blockbuster success when it hit theaters.

In addition to films starring Ajith Kumar, the early part of 2025 also marked the cinema release of Chiyaan Vikram with Veera Dheera Sooran – Part 2. The first edition of this planned series showcased the actor as an unyielding husband, ready to take extreme measures to safeguard his loved ones.

After the listed films, the Tamil film industry experienced a significant release with the movie “Retro,” starring Suriya. This production by Karthik Subbaraj blended romance and action, featuring Pooja Hegde as the female protagonist. The audience reactions were divided on this film.

Ultimately, among the notable movies that graced the cinema screens were “Thug Life” starring Kamal Haasan and “Kuberaa” featuring Dhanush.

Which movie left you unsatisfied the most?

In the second part of 2025, both “Coolie” starring Rajinikanth and “Madharasi” featuring Sivakarthikeyan will hit the big screen. It remains to be seen whether these movies will find success when they premiere at the theaters.
