Our 7 favorite announcements from Gamescom 2024

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Gamescom 2024 was a veritable treasure trove for us enthusiasts! With so many exciting announcements and trailers unveiled, it’s like Christmas came early for us geeks.

2024’s Gamescom event has passed, and video game enthusiasts find themselves grappling with the task of deciding where to direct their attention first. The flurry of announcements during that week left everyone struggling to keep up with all the developments.

Here are my top 7 exciting reveals from this year’s Gamescom 2024 event, presented in no specific sequence! Each one left me eagerly anticipating more.

Unfortunately, there’s no news on “Hollow Knight: Silksong” or “The Haunted Chocolatier” for your fellow Stardew Valley enthusiasts yet.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle official release date

It has been anticipated that “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” would release some time in 2024. Now, we have official confirmation that it will hit theaters during the upcoming holiday season, specifically on December 9th!

Additionally, we learned that it is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 during the spring of 2025, which contradicts Phil Spencer’s earlier statement that it would not be arriving on PS5 in the immediate future.

This looks so good. Troy Baker’s giving us his best Harrison Ford and even just in his voiceover of this announcement trailer, you can tell he’s very passionate about this role. I mean, who wouldn’t be if they got to play Indiana Jones?!

Borderlands 4 announcement

To put it simply, this development wasn’t all that unexpected given our recent discussion in the last weekly briefing. Moreover, the trailer didn’t reveal much; it merely confirmed that a new installment of the Borderlands series is underway.

Amazon Prime Video’sĀ Secret LevelsĀ trailer

On December 10th, the premiere of Amazon Prime’s “Secret Levels,” a captivating adult-oriented animated series inspired by popular video games, will take place. The world of gaming television shows has been thriving recently, and the sneak peek for season one’s trailer is simply fantastic!

These fifteen episodes will feature tales derived from games such as Armored Core, Concord, Crossfire, Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Honor of Kings, Mega Man, New World: Aeternum, PAC-MAN, several titles from PlayStation Studios, Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament, and Warhammer 40,000.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire

If you were hoping that the popular game Cuphead would be a first-person shooter instead, then you’ll be intrigued by what Gamescom unveiled. A trailer for this was initially revealed around nine months back under the name MOUSE, but this new version appears to have received significant refinement.

Again, it’s still a work in progress and everything can still change, but the vibes (and music) are pitch-perfect. We can’t wait to see more and to find out when it’ll actually be released!

Squirrel with a Gun official launch trailer & release date

We’ve been eagerly waiting for updates about “Squirrel with a Gun“, and Gamescom didn’t fall short. It’s set to release on August 29th! This game combines elements of a sandbox shooter and a puzzle platformer, and it appears both cute and amusing. You can now pre-order it on Steam at a 10% discount, making the price just $17.99.

Monster Hunter Wilds

We had another peek at the forthcoming “Monster Hunter Wilds,” scheduled for launch in 2025. It seems that the queue to try out its demo was an impressive ten hours long.

This fresh appearance offers new creatures, a different setting, insights into gameplay, an ultimate predator, and some entirely novel NPCs. If you’re a fan of the series, it seems that this sixth installment in the franchise is gearing up to be as impressive as its previous games.

Path of Exile 2‘s early access date

If you’re eagerly anticipating immersing yourself for extended periods in an upcoming action RPG, then mark your calendars as Path of Exile 2 from Grinding Gear Games is set to arrive in early access on November 15th. We can hardly contain our excitement over the intricate skill trees that will likely have us losing track of time, with a potential investment of even 100 hours and still feeling we’ve barely scratched the surface!
