As a longtime fan of Godzilla and classic cinema, I’m beyond excited that the unique and visually stunning “Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color” will be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 1, 2024. This special version of the iconic movie, which was first shown in Japanese theaters earlier this year, is more than just a black-and-white recolor – it’s a meticulously crafted and thoughtful reinterpretation that offers a fresh perspective on the original film.
In August, a unique adaptation of the acclaimed “Godzilla Minus One” will be available for streaming on Netflix. Surprisingly, this is the first Godzilla film to receive an Oscar award. Although it’s an extraordinary accomplishment, international streaming services have obtained the rights to this movie. Nevertheless, Netflix has secured the privilege to present this special version.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll have the opportunity to watch Godzilla Minus One directly on Netflix! Even more excitingly, it’s the Minus One / Minus Color version that will be streamed, as confirmed by the official Netflix Twitter and X account.
Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color Coming To Streaming Services
A few months back, filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki shared insights into the process behind the recent Japanese release of Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color in cinemas. As reported by Bloody Disgusting,
Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut by cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes, as if they were creating a new movie. What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography.
GODZILLA MINUS ONE / MINUS COLOR IS COMING TO NETFLIX AUGUST 1
— Netflix (@netflix) July 12, 2024
The director and developers didn’t merely enhance the colors in the movie; instead, they created an entirely new and distinctive version called “Minus Color,” set to be released on Netflix soon.
We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater.
Movie enthusiasts can begin watching “Godzilla Minus One” on Netflix as of August 1, 2024. This film marks a significant achievement for the Godzilla franchise, being the first one to receive an Oscar. Given its modest budget compared to other Godzilla productions, this is truly noteworthy.
