According to producer Dan Fogelman’s latest announcement, it seems that “Only Murders in the Building” is almost done with production, suggesting a familiar timeframe for its release. The filming timeline follows the pattern of previous seasons, stoking excitement for the return of this popular Hulu mystery-comedy series.
Only Murders in The Building Season 5 filming update teases release date window
Filming for Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building, which started in March 2025, is almost wrapping up. Executive producer Dan Fogelman shared this update with Collider during the Newport Beach TV Fest, stating, “I’ve already watched six out of the ten episodes. We are currently shooting the final episodes of the season.
The team is adhering to a filming plan similar to Season 4, which aired from March to June and was released in late August. As of now, no official trailers or promotional photos for Season 5 have been unveiled. Nonetheless, speculations point towards the possible premiere of the new season during the same late summer period.
In Season 5, we’ll see the return of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Additionally, Meryl Streep reappears as Loretta Durkin, now married to Oliver Putnam. Joining the cast for the first time are Jermaine Fowler, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Logan Lerman, Beanie Feldstein, and Renée Zellweger. Creator Dan Fogelman shared that the guest stars this season will create quite an impact and commended their performances as being “hilarious, funny, and risky in all the right ways.
The fourth season concluded with the demise of Lester (played by Teddy Coluca), a long-standing doorman at the Arconia, during Oliver and Loretta’s wedding. Additionally, Téa Leoni joined the cast as Sofia, who comes to the group seeking help in finding her missing husband, whose disappearance seems to be connected to the Arconia. These storylines will continue into the next season.
The show follows a yearly schedule for releases, with three out of its four seasons premiering in August. Should production wrap up in June, Season 5 might be released as late as summer 2025.
