Only 5 CBS shows will premiere in September, the rest are coming in October

As a long-time CBS enthusiast with memories of tuning into my trusty old Rabbit Ears TV for classic shows like “Matlock” and “Survivor”, I must say, I’m feeling a bit nostalgic yet intrigued by the network’s September 2024 lineup. It seems CBS is taking a slightly different approach this year, with only five premieres gracing our screens in September.

It’s now the season when we eagerly anticipate the start of the fall TV lineup! However, it seems that CBS won’t be bursting with premieres for September 2024; instead, most of their new and returning series will air in October. So, which five shows are actually debuting in September?

Although most shows in September deviate from the usual procedural or comedy format, there will still be a sprinkle of reality programming with returning and new faces. Furthermore, viewers can catch a glimpse of Kathy Bates’ new series, Matlock, following CBS football on Sunday, Sept. 22.

If you are into news and investigative series, then you will be able to mark your calendars for two of the best-known shows, 48 Hours and 60 Minutes.

CBS is set to begin with the much-loved reality competition series “Survivor” returning for its season 47 on Wednesday, September 18 at 8/7 central time, airing a special two-hour premiere. Afterward, it will settle into its usual 90-minute timeslot starting from September 25. Although the official roster of contestants has yet to be revealed, hints from the network and social media platforms have given fans a sneak peek at some of the participants.

As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of TV shows, I’m excited about the reboot of the ’80s classic, Matlock. This time around, the titular role of Madeline “Matty” Matlock will be played by none other than Bates. She’s making her comeback to lawyering after a financial setback caused by her husband’s gambling problems. The mastermind behind this revival is Jenni Snyder Urman, renowned for her work on the captivating series, Jane The Virgin.

On Sunday, September 22nd at 8/7 central time, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll get a sneak peek of the show airing after football! Starting from October 10th at 10/9c, it will have its regular slot on Thursdays. This exciting series also boasts an impressive cast including Leah Lewis, Jason Ritter, Skye P. Marshall, Beau Bridges, and David Del Rio. Can’t wait to see them in action!

The new reality TV series, titled “The Summit,” will trace the journeys of 16 contestants as they navigate the New Zealand Alps, with a million dollars in each of their backpacks as the ultimate prize. Over the course of two weeks, they will confront treacherous landscapes, biting Antarctic winds, pulse-quickening challenges, and emotionally taxing eliminations, all while striving to reach the mountain’s summit.

A sneak peek of the new series, which stars Manu Bennett as the host, will air on Sunday, Sept. 29. For east coast viewers it will air from 9-10:30 PM while west coast viewers can watch it at 8:30-10:00 PM. Viewers who miss out on the sneak peek will get to watch an encore showing on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The show will then return on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for its regular 9:30/8:30c timeslot.

60 Minutes is set to broadcast its season 57 opener on Sunday, September 22nd at 7 PM Eastern Time (6 PM Central Time), preceding the start of Matlock’s premiere.

The opening episode of “48 Hours” in its 37th season is scheduled to be broadcast on Saturday, September 21st at 9/8 central time. This long-running investigative series will carry on with its mission of chronicling cases and delving into crimes that have been featured in the media.

Although it might take a while longer for the remainder of CBS’s fall television series to debut, viewers can look forward to some thrilling reality shows and news segments that will keep them entertained as they eagerly await the rest of the season.
