Today, we’ve finally received a fresh glimpse into Onimusha: Way of the Sword, since its unveiling at The Game Awards 2024. At today’s Capcom Spotlight event, some team members offered valuable insights regarding the upcoming title. One of the most significant revelations is that the new game will introduce a brand-new main character, instead of Samanosuke Akechi or Jubei Yagyu as we’ve seen before. However, it appears that iconic historical figures like these two will still make appearances within the game.
This week during Capcom Spotlight, I was thrilled to learn about their upcoming projects, including the Capcom Fighting Collection games, a new Okami sequel, and Monster Hunter Wilds. But what really caught my attention was the extensive presentation on Onimusha: Way of the Sword by Producer Akihito Kadowaki and Director Satoru Nihei. They dropped some exciting news – a new character will wield the Demon Gauntlet in Way of the Sword! Plus, they assured us that we’ll still see historical figures pop up in the game. I can hardly wait!
As a dedicated gamer, I must admit it’s a bit of a bummer that Jubei Yagyu from Onimusha 2 or Samanosuke Akechi from Onimusha and Onimusha 3 aren’t making a comeback as the main characters in Way of the Sword. However, hearing about the significant upgrade in combat mechanics really gets me pumped! The focus on flashy swordplay, dismemberment, and the ability to absorb demon souls to amplify my attacks are features that I’ve always loved about this series. So while it’s sad not to see these iconic characters, I’m looking forward to diving into the improved combat and experiencing a fresh take on Way of the Sword!
The identity of the main character in Onimusha: Way of the Sword remains unknown, yet this uncertainty brings about fresh opportunities for the upcoming game. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Way of the Sword discussion for any new developments and announcements.
