Talking about the challenges of hitting “studio standards” and ensuring a film’s popularity, Issa Rae expressed her conviction that the success of One of Them Days would demonstrate that there exists an audience craving movies like this.

Regarding the studio’s expectations for the project, she mentioned, “It’s important to note that, as Black filmmakers with Black female leads, there’s a risk. If our work doesn’t succeed, they might say ‘We tried this’, which is an unfair burden.

However, it ended up placing third behind Mufasa: The Lion King from Disney, which reclaimed the top position over the extended weekend, and One of Them Days, whose impressive opening of $14.2 million allowed it to recover its production costs. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has garnered a rating of 95% on the Tomatometer based on 65 reviews and 92% on the Popcornmeter.
