Curious about what led Omni-Man to kill the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible? The surprising event in Season 1 significantly changed the way viewers perceived Omni-Man, revealing him as a merciless killer instead of a noble hero. In this brutal act, he eliminated Earth’s mightiest protectors. This action not only shifted the direction of the storyline but also caused severe repercussions for his son, Mark Grayson, who is known as Invincible. Traumatized by his father’s actions, Mark grappled with betrayal and faced distrust from allies like the Immortal and many others.
But what drove Omni-Man to commit such a brutal massacre? Here’s everything you need to know.
Why Omni-Man killed the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible
In the comic series ‘Invincible’, Omni-Man was instructed by the Viltrumite Empire to get rid of any possible obstacles, including the Guardians of the Globe, as they planned to take over Earth.
At first, Omni-Man pretended to save and guide humanity on Earth. But it was later revealed that his true purpose was to ready our planet for Viltrumite domination.
The Viltrumite Empire experienced a mass slaughter known as the Great Purging. During this tragic incident, many individuals who were considered weak by their superiors were mercilessly eliminated. This brutal act was an integral part of the empire’s strategy to develop a population composed exclusively of exceptionally powerful and genetically superior beings.
Regrettably, this genocide significantly decreased their population size. To rectify this, the Viltrumite Empire dispatched numerous warriors to various worlds with the goal of preparing them for annexation and monitoring their progress. Additionally, they were mandated to cross-breed with the indigenous populace, observing if any offspring possessed similar abilities. If a planet refused the rule of the Viltrumite Empire, those assigned there were directed to annihilate it.
When Mark declined his invitation, Nolan contemplated annihilating Earth. Yet, after dwelling on Earth for an extended period, he underwent a transformation and found himself unable to carry out the deed. Instead, he elected to depart. Furthermore, Omni-Man opted not to revisit Viltrum, as he foresaw being labeled a deserter if he did.
