As a lifelong fan of both Halo and DOOM, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon learning that Microsoft shut down Secret Level’s proposed crossover episode between these two iconic franchises. Growing up, Halo and DOOM were staples in my gaming life, providing countless hours of exhilarating action, captivating stories, and unforgettable moments. The idea of seeing Master Chief and the Doom Slayer team up against a common enemy was a dream come true for many fans like myself, and the prospect of witnessing such an epic crossover unfold on screen was genuinely exciting.
The news of Microsoft’s decision to nix the project leaves me scratching my head. With the recent overhaul of 343 Industries as Halo Studios, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for the franchise to explore new ground and take risks. A crossover episode with DOOM would have been a bold move that could have garnered significant attention and acclaim for both franchises.
Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. While I can understand Microsoft’s concerns about potential conflicts with the upcoming Halo TV show on Paramount, I can’t help but feel that they missed an opportunity to create something truly special for fans of both franchises. In a world where crossovers have become increasingly popular and successful, it’s unfortunate that this particular collaboration was snuffed out before it even had a chance to ignite.
On the bright side, I guess we can always hope for a DOOM episode in Secret Level, or better yet, a Halo x DOOM crossover in some other form down the line. And who knows? Maybe one day, Master Chief and the Doom Slayer will team up to save the universe after all – just not on my watch (or screen).
Oh, and if Microsoft ever decides to greenlight this project, I’ll be first in line for tickets. Just don’t tell the Prophet of Regret!
The animated anthology series “Secret Level,” inspired by video games on Amazon Prime, pitched the idea of a joint episode featuring Halo and DOOM to Microsoft. With potential episodes based on God of War, Space Marine 2, and even Concord (still amusing), an individual episode from either franchise or, more notably, a crossover could have significantly boosted the popularity of Xbox’s iconic game series.
Sadly, it appears that Microsoft decided not to proceed with the planned crossover between Secret Level’s Halo and DOOM. This move comes amidst recent changes for the Halo franchise, such as transforming 343 Industries into Halo Studios. It seems that Microsoft has chosen not to allow this particular episode to materialize. Let’s hope for better news in the future!
Microsoft kills Halo x DOOM crossover
During an interview with Collider, writers Dave Wilson (Secret Level) and Tim Miller shared that their team had penned a complete crossover proposal. Over the course of a weekend, they wrote an emotionally charged letter expressing their childhood dreams, only to receive a swift rejection from Microsoft.
Wilson shared that he had drafted a heartfelt letter to create a crossover episode featuring Master Chief and the DOOM Slayer, a project from his youthful imagination. However, as he put it, “Tim and the team weren’t on board with the idea.
Given the extended production period for Secret Level, it’s plausible that Microsoft chose not to feature Master Chief because of the premiere of the Paramount-produced Halo TV series. Although the series had some appealing aspects, like its action sequences, and Season 2 was fairly good, it didn’t quite meet fan expectations.
Even though we’re unsure about the reasons behind Microsoft closing down Secret Level’s Halo x DOOM collaboration and the lack of a standard DOOM episode, let’s hope that there isn’t another disappointing DOOM film in production – we’ve had enough of them already.
