Off the Shelf? Warner Bros Negotiating Sale Of ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Movie

It appears that the long-held Warner Bros project titled “Coyote vs. Acme” could potentially find a new residence within the studio, as they are currently engaged in extensive talks regarding potential sales, according to Deadline’s report.

Gareth West’s distribution-financing company, Ketchup Entertainment, is currently in discussions for a deal to purchase all rights, estimated at around $50 million, for a combined animated/live-action project. Last year, Ketchup Entertainment successfully saved the same studio’s film titled The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.

Although the agreement hasn’t been fully sealed yet, it’s moving forward positively. If everything goes as planned, the movie will be released in cinemas in 2026.

Under the direction of David Green and with writing credits to May December scribe Samy Burch, James Gunn (DC Studios co-boss) and Jeremy Slater, the film titled “Coyote vs. Acme” draws inspiration from the classic Looney Tunes characters and the humorous New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme,” penned by Ian Frazier.

Although the project initially performed well during testing, it unfortunately became a high-profile victim of Warner Bros.’ cost-cutting measures two years ago and has remained unused for more than a year since then. The studio is said to have shown the film to potential buyers early in 2024, with an asking price around $70M – the reported production cost. However, it seems that no offers were made at the time according to insiders from the studio.

Warner Bros and Ketchup declined to comment.
