The film’s chilling plot, with its mind-bending twist at the end, has been a thrilling addition to the horror landscape.

Fans of horror films have been thrilled by Damian Mc Carthy’s 2024 movie “Oddity”. The Irish thriller, with its spine-tingling storyline that surprises at the climax, has proven to be a fantastic addition to the genre. However, some viewers have expressed bewilderment about the conclusion and are seeking clarification. They are looking for answers regarding the fate of the main characters in the end.

In a recent chat, filmmaker Damian Mc Carthy clarified the movie’s finale and unraveled its surprising climax.

What happened to Dani and Ted at the end of Oddity?

In the final scene of the movie, it’s unveiled that it was actually Ted, portrayed by Gwilym Lee, who devised the sinister plot leading to his wife Dani’s homicide. The narrative centers around Darcy, Dani’s twin sister and a psychic, who is hell-bent on discovering her sister’s murderer. She even takes drastic measures such as killing the initial suspect, Olin, only to later understand that he was blameless. By employing her supernatural abilities and a wooden dummy, Darcy uncovered Ted’s transgression and confronted him about it.

In a twisted turn of events, Ted enlisted Ivan, an employee from the mental health facility where Ted is stationed, for a sinister task: murdering Dani. Later, he dispatched Ivan to eliminate Darcy too, but Ivan was petrified by the animate mannequin that Darcy had brought to life with her abilities instead. To further cover his tracks, Ted unleashed a cannibal on Ivan, hoping this would ensure the truth about his crimes remained buried. However, just when it seemed Ted might evade justice, another surprising twist emerged, challenging the audience’s assumptions.

One day, after finishing work, Ted arrives home to discover a package from Darcy’s peculiar shop waiting for him. Inside was a concierge bell, which Darcy had told him beforehand was inhabited by the vengeful ghost of a former bellhop. Despite the caution, Ted decides to give it a ring, unaware that the spirit was indeed planning to visit him. The story ends abruptly, suggesting that Ted met his end.

Is Oddity based on a true story or book?

In actuality, the film Oddity doesn’t stem from any written book or true events. However, there are theories that the director drew motivation from horror themes he appreciates. The movie’s central wooden mannequin is influenced by Jewish folklore – the golem. A golem is a creature primarily constructed of clay or mud that can be given life.

Regarding selecting Ted as the surprise antagonist, McCarthy commented, “It seemed fitting, much like a typical detective story where the husband turns out to be the culprit. It just felt like the appropriate pick.”
