It’s not unexpected that, after more than two months since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was released, players have begun to spot variations between the remade version and the initial role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios.
There are differences between the original and the remastered versions of the game, such as a door that doesn’t align with lore and possibly the number of gates leading to Oblivion. A keen-eyed fan on Reddit has pointed out that there might be 57 gates in the remaster that can be closed instead of the 60 found in the original version.
I believe it is highly likely there are 57 Gates in the remaster which can be closed instead of the 60 in the original. from r/oblivion
In the comments section, the user known as “dyl40011” lays out their thought process leading up to their decision.
I meticulously inspected every potential spot for a gate to appear (it was exhausting), and then double-checked the 20 fixed gates. None are spawning anymore. I’ve closed 57 gates so far, including the grand one. I’ve begun exploring Paradise but haven’t finished yet. I’m feeling frustrated, but I’ve covered every nook and cranny of Cyrodil.
The other person said they followed the same procedure and arrived at number 57 as well. However, the commenter confirmed that they completed all necessary steps to close each gate, but due to frustration, they attributed it to a glitch since they couldn’t go through the manual verification process again.
From another perspective, some enthusiasts of Oblivion Remastered claim they’ve actually closed 60 gates instead of the commonly believed 57.
How is this possible? Apparently, it’s (not so) simple math.
You should check if you saved your game right before each gate location. This is because it isn’t always guaranteed that the gate will appear, and the likelihood after Dagon’s Shrine is approximately 50%. If the gate doesn’t show up when you get there, you may need to reload an earlier save and try again.
However, it’s important to note that if you’ve previously completed the Paradise quest and uncovered 20 gates, the game will no longer generate new ones.
In this game, you’ll only encounter a limited number of gates during each playthrough. Specifically, there will be 20 fixed gates and anywhere between 15 and 40 random gates. Furthermore, there’s a chance that additional Oblivion gates will open randomly after you complete certain missions. For example, there’s a 25% chance of up to 15 more random gates appearing until you reach the Dagon Shrine. Once you pass the Dagon Shrine, the number of possible random gates increases to 40, with a 50% chance of additional gates opening randomly.

Additionally, there’s a 25% likelihood that additional Oblivion gates will appear after completing the ‘Paradise’ quest. However, if you have already found 20 random gates, no more gates will open during this phase of the game. It’s worth noting that the probability of encountering random gates is highest between the quests ‘Dagon Shrine’ and ‘Paradise’, with a chance of 50% in that particular stretch.
If the information seems overwhelming and gives you a headache… don’t worry, it’s normal. There’s a lot to absorb, but rest assured, members of the Elder Scrolls community are accustomed to tackling complex data.
