Beyond the significant graphical upgrade, Oblivion Remastered made improvements to aspects of the original game that were somewhat bothersome. Now, you won’t need to grind minor skills extensively for efficient leveling, and the Nine can now traverse the expansive open world more smoothly. However, one issue persists: loot scaling based on levels.
Players of Oblivion have consistently found leveled loot problematic over the years, as they’ve devised numerous strategies to circumvent this aspect of the game. Essentially, Oblivion would adjust non-random drops, typically quest rewards, based on their leveled version of that item, which roughly corresponded with your character’s level.
Using Chillrend at a low level is fine initially, but once you advance in the game, the weapon becomes less effective due to your character’s level increase. While some modifications address this by making all items the top-tier versions, modder TheOneTrueRy has proposed an alternative, more refined solution.
The Auto Upgrade Levelled Items mod is exactly as described: it automatically swaps out unique, leveled items you get as rewards from quests with ones suitable for your character’s current level as they progress. This means you won’t have to fret about whether or not you should tackle certain quests based on their levels anymore!
In a 10-hour intense focus, TheOneTrueRy strongly believed he was fulfilling divine work, not Todd’s tasks. Instead, he immersed himself deeply into Oblivion’s tools and scripting, leading to a significant change that eliminates the need for prolonged waiting to inform Farmer Odiil about saving his farm and both his sons years ago, thus obtaining the strongest Chillrend version without delay!
This mod offers three distinct versions, each enhancing your items uniquely through an automated process. One version allows you to use a personal spell to activate the upgrades. The mod encompasses over 100 varied items and two spells based on the game’s main content and all DLCs. As of now, items from the deluxe edition aren’t included, but they will be added in an upcoming update.
As a gamer, I’ve always found the level-based loot system to be a cumbersome workaround that often diminished gameplay experiences, rather than enhancing them. The abundance of guides and tutorial videos dedicated to mastering this system only underscores its shortcomings. It’s quite astonishing that even in Oblivion Remastered, this aspect wasn’t addressed for improvement. But, as always, the Elder Scrolls modding community has come through with creative solutions.
