Famous YouTube content creator Bacon_, known for his love of dogs and various other videos, has found an intriguing modification in Oblivion Remastered that might be intentional or not. The popular Khajiiti stimulant, Skooma, appears to have received a significant boost in power. In the remastered version, the effects of Skooma can now stack up to 22 times, compared to the eight times they did in the original game.
In the game “Oblivion,” the magical substance known as Oblivion increases your speed and strength for a while, but decreases your agility significantly. Moreover, it causes a permanent reduction of 60 points (with a maximum of 100 points per attribute during leveling) in your intelligence each time you consume it. In the original version of Oblivion, these effects could stack up to eight times.
In Oblivion ’06, I used to stack eight Skoomas for a quick and funny trick during speedrunning sessions, as it boosted my running speed nearly five times more than regular leveling. Now, Bacon_ has found out that the remaster allows us to stack up to 22 Skooma bottles! That’s a speed stat of 1,320 – way over 13 times the legal limit! This discovery certainly took me by surprise!
Bacon_ skillfully manipulated the system by achieving a perfect Alchemy score of 100, which boosts the number of active potions he can carry simultaneously. Moreover, there’s an intriguing game mechanic exploited by Bacon_, involving Oblivion Remastered: The game has distinct limits for potions consumed from the inventory and those drunk using hotkeys.
Following a swift run of 22 Skooms, Bacon_ managed to dash from the Imperial City to Castle Skingrad within barely a minute, mirroring the speed and style of One Punch Man’s character, Saitama, on the athletic field throughout his journey.
In the original game, eight Skooms appeared to move at roughly the same speed as their remastered counterparts, numbering 22. However, a minor slope in the classic version of Oblivion would propel them much higher into the air, leading to massive leaps that covered vast areas of the map.
In simpler terms, I’d attribute the difference to the way Unreal Engine 5 manages physics compared to the original Havok system. On the other hand, the 22 Skoom special in Remastered seems to provide a more manageable, usable speed with reduced risk of dying.
Increasing the dosage of Skooma makes it even funnier, providing an extra delight to Elder Scrolls fans, since Skooma has always been this amusingly absurd, popular drug in the game’s universe, known as the cat-man’s silly narcotic that induces hyperactivity.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice that the developers at Virtuous intentionally increased the limit in this remastered game. It seems like they did this to align with the more serious and realistic physics in the game world. In Tamriel, it’s as if the Skooma Federal Reserve is adjusting interest rates downward and promoting Skooma inflation – all to keep up with the changing market conditions.
This item is likely to offer a lot of usefulness for speedruns as well – although not as much for Oblivion’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it any% where Bacon_ set one of the first world records in the remaster last week, it will be more beneficial for full main quest or 100% runs that involve more traveling across the map.
