As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly looking forward to several South Indian films that are planning for a Pongal 2026 release, among them being Thalapathy Vijay’s latest film, Jana Nayagan. The makers have officially declared its theater premiere on January 9, 2026. However, it appears that the film may face competition as Jr NTR’s upcoming project with Prashanth Neel also seems to be scheduled for the same release date, following the confirmation from the producers.
2024 saw the announcement that the NTR-Neel project would premiere in cinemas on January 9, 2026. Coincidentally, Vijay’s movie was set for release on the same date, leading some reports to suggest that Jr NTR’s film might need to be rescheduled.
As a lifestyle expert, I must share that the creators behind the Prashanth Neel film have once more affirmed the original release date they previously announced. This decision seems to be setting up a potential box office showdown.
Beyond the two contenders, another film, “Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi” directed by Sudha Kongara, is also competing for a release on Pongal 2022.
It remains uncertain which upcoming films will hold their ground amidst fierce competition at the box office, as several movies are set to release around the same time. It also remains unclear if any of these films will be delayed to avoid simultaneous premieres.
Regarding our ongoing project, known as NTR-Neel, production on the upcoming action film has already commenced. However, the lead actor, Neel, has not yet reported to set. He won’t be joining until he wraps up the current projects he’s working on at present.
Instead, it can be rephrased as: On the contrary, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has sparked great enthusiasm among viewers, who feel a mix of nostalgia and anticipation about seeing the Tamil superstar act for the final time in a movie.
According to reports, the film directed by H Vinoth is described as a political action thriller and is expected to depict Vijay’s transformation from an actor into a politician. From the movie posters released so far, it appears that Vijay will convincingly portray the character of a popular leader.
