As a dedicated follower and ardent admirer of Dhanush’s acting prowess, it is intriguing to learn about the unexpected journey that led him to the role of Kundan Shankar in Raanjhanaa. Initially, Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice for the film, a revelation that adds an interesting twist to the tale.
In 2013, actor Dhanush moved audiences with his profound portrayal in the movie Raanjhanaa. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, this film also starred Sonam Kapoor as the female lead. Even after several years, the character of Kundan Shankar from this film continues to resonate with Dhanush’s numerous fans. Interestingly, filmmaker Aanand L. Rai recently disclosed that Dhanush was not his initial pick for the role in Raanjhanaa.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, the director shared that he was seeking an actor whose persona was uncomplicated and could effortlessly mix with the group at that time. However, instead of Dhanush, he intended to reach out to Ranbir Kapoor for the film.
Aanand L Rai revealed that it wasn’t Ranbir Kapoor who ended up starring in the movie, but instead, Dhanush. He explained, “Ranbir is an actor who effortlessly blends into a crowd due to his simplicity, which I find challenging. However, he was unavailable during our filming schedule. As we were looking for someone with similar qualities, we discovered Dhanush.”
Additionally, during our discussion, the filmmaker opened up about creating Raanjhanaa spontaneously, even though he had previously achieved success with various popular movies.
As an ardent admirer, let me share my perspective: I, along with Himanshu Sharma, firmly believed that a tale as profound as “Raanjhanaa” needed to be shared with the world. We’ve always found success in staying true to our stories and our casting choices, and this was no exception.
It seems there’s some exciting news circulating! Reports indicate that actor Dhanush is planning to team up with director Aanand L Rai once more for a new movie, expected to hit screens in 2025. There are whispers that Bollywood star Kriti Sanon may join the cast as the female lead.
Contrastingly, Dhanush has gained widespread acclaim and achieved great success with the movie Raayan. Remarkably, it surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark globally at the box office. Moreover, he is set to feature in the trilingual film Kubera as well.
