Nosferatu Rating Promises Lots of Blood, Contains Graphic Nudity

As a lifelong fan of horror films and a connoisseur of Robert Eggers’ chilling masterpieces, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Nosferatu“! The MPA rating of R only confirms what we all suspected – this film promises to be a visceral, terrifying journey into the heart of darkness.

The official MPA rating for 2024’s Nosferatu has been revealed.

Next month, the film “Nosferatu” will hit theaters across the United States. This production, directed by Robert Eggers (known for his work on “The Witch,” “The Lighthouse,” and “The Northman”), is a modern take on the 1922 silent German movie of the same name.

What is the MPA rating for Nosferatu?

According to film classifications by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), Nosferatu received an R rating due to its intense violence with bloodshed, explicit nudity, and scenes containing mature sexual themes. Notably, all of Eggers’ preceding films have also been rated R.

“The summary for Nosferatu by Robert Eggers tells a chilling story of an obsessive relationship between a tormented female protagonist and a fearsome vampire who pursues her. This haunting romance brings about terrifying consequences.

The movie’s ensemble features Bill Skarsgård playing Count Orlok, Nicholas Hoult acting as Thomas Hutter, Lily-Rose Depp in the role of Ellen Hutter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson portraying Friedrich Harding, Emma Corrin as Anna Harding, Willem Dafoe taking on Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz, Ralph Ineson depicting Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, and Simon McBurney representing Herr Knock.

Eggers is responsible for writing the screenplay for the film Nosferatu. In addition to this role, he collaborates with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus as a producer on the project.

Previously, the director shared with Total Film their thoughts on the vampire movie: “We’ve taken our depiction of vampires as far as Edward Cullen, where they are no longer frightening. Now, how can we go in stark contrast to that? Vampires were once so terrifying that people would exhume corpses and dismember them, then burn the pieces…I believe it’s time for a chilling, foul-smelling corpse to return.

Peter Kujawski from Focus Features earlier mentioned that Robert Eggers’ filmmaking style is a delight for fans, and his version of “Nosferatu” is gearing up for an extraordinary holiday spectacle.

Nosferatu will be released in United States theaters on December 25, 2024, from Focus Features.
