Norman Reedus confirms filming for season 3 of the Daryl Dixon spinoff has begun in Spain

As a die-hard fan of The Walking Dead universe, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming third season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon! Having been hooked since the early days of Rick Grimes and his band of survivors, it’s been a rollercoaster ride to see Daryl’s character evolve from a mere background character to the main protagonist in his own spinoff series.

“The TV series titled ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ is the fifth installment in AMC’s popular long-running zombie series, The Walking Dead. This spinoff follows the adventures of Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus), taking us to new locations and expanding the world of The Walking Dead. The show debuted in 2023, with the second season set to air later this autumn.”

In the second season, titled “The Book of Carol“, we find Melissa McBride resuming her character, Carol Peletier, who is Daryl’s close friend. This storyline follows their intertwining paths as Carol searches for a lost friend across America, while Daryl confronts the Pouvoir, or The Power of the Living, in France.

The second season of the “Daryl Dixon” series, exclusively available on AMC and AMC+, will make its debut on September 29th. AMC+ subscribers can enjoy additional exclusive content, while both platforms offer a sneak peek into what’s to come for the upcoming season.

This week, Reedus posted on social media a hint that filming for the third season of the show has started. Fans are thrilled about the prospect of seeing more of Carol and Daryl, but what’s even more intriguing is that this season will be set and shot in Spain, broadening the series’ universe yet again.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that in an exclusive interview with Radio Times, Norman Reedus himself revealed the exciting shift in filming location for our beloved series! The official announcement was made at the 2024 SDCC panel held in Hall H, where we learned that the third season will be magically brought to life in Spain. Filming has commenced this week right here in Madrid, but the magic doesn’t stop there! Other breathtaking locations such as Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia, and Valencia will also serve as backdrops for our story. I can hardly wait to see where our journey takes us next!

As a gamer, I’m excited about the third season because it’s all about Carol and Daryl’s journey back home to America to be with our folks. On this road trip, we end up venturing way off course, taking us further than ever from our goal. We explore some uncharted territories, witnessing firsthand how the zombie apocalypse has impacted different areas.

In 2023, the series starring Daryl Dixon debuted on AMC Networks and was reportedly the most-watched premiere ever on their streaming platform AMC+, as well as the most-viewed season of any show on the service to date. Furthermore, it significantly boosted subscriptions in both the U.S. and Spain. However, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has since outperformed Daryl Dixon in these areas.
