Based on information from industry expert DanielRPK, it appears that five established actors have supposedly declined offers for roles in “Star Wars: Starfighter.” This has sparked speculation as to what factors could be causing this reluctance.

Not Just One — Now Five Actors Out

Initially, it was noteworthy when actress Mikey Madison supposedly refused a role in Star Wars: Starfighter. However, it seems that she wasn’t alone. Jodie Comer, Jesse Plemons, Greta Lee, and Sarah Snook are also reported to have rejected offers for the film’s cast, making five in total who have declined roles.

In the casting process, each of Comer, Plemons, and Madison were up for significant antagonist roles, while Greta Lee received an offer to portray a cantina proprietor. Moreover, Sarah Snook was chosen for the role of the protagonist’s mom.

A Fandom Reputation That’s Hard to Ignore

Comments swiftly associated the casting issues with the Star Wars fan community, especially its more problematic segments. A widely shared post stated, “Nobody wants to endure months of bullying from middle-aged individuals living in basements.” Others labeled the fanbase as “toxic” and asserted that the roles weren’t worth the financial compensation or emotional strain. These issues have been ongoing for some time. Over the last decade, various Star Wars actors have experienced intense online harassment, frequently stemming from racism and sexism.

John Boyega faced a deluge of hostility just for being the Black main character in the franchise. Daisy Ridley, who starred as Rey in the sequel trilogy, endured such intense harassment for being a female lead that she eventually chose to abandon her social media platforms altogether. Similarly, Kelly Marie Tran and Moses Ingram encountered similar mistreatment. Although Disney has occasionally spoken out on these matters, such as their statement supporting Moses Ingram, many believe these responses came too late and lacked tangible efforts for change.
