No, Tom Cavanagh Isn’t the Reverse-Flash in Superman & Lois, but Who Is He?

As a long-time fan who has followed Tom Cavanagh’s illustrious career from his early days on Ed and his iconic roles in The Flash, I must say that seeing him step into a new character in Superman & Lois Season 4 was a delightful surprise! While many of us were eagerly anticipating the return of Harrison Wells or Reverse-Flash, Tom’s portrayal of Gordon Godfrey, a TV journalist, offers a refreshing twist.

In the latest episode of Superman & Lois Season 4, Tom Cavanagh made an appearance, leaving viewers wondering about his new role. Recognized for his memorable portrayal of Reverse-Flash and multiple versions of Harrison Wells in The Flash, fans presumed he might revisit a similar character here. However, Tom Cavanagh’s role in Superman & Lois offers a unique twist, as he assumes the part of an entirely different captivating character.

Here are all the details of what he portrays in Superman & Lois.

Is Tom Cavanagh playing Harrison Wells / Reverse-Flash in Superman & Lois Season 4?

In Superman & Lois Season 4, Cavanagh won’t be playing both Harrison Wells and the Reverse-Flash. Instead, his character will be that of Gordon Godfrey, a television news reporter.

In the eighth episode, titled “Sharp Dressed Man,” Lex Luthor challenges Lois Lane to engage in a real-time TV discussion on a program called “Godfrey.” Known for his iconic comic book portrayal, Luthor makes an appearance, and this show is helmed by popular broadcast journalist Gordon Godfrey, played by Cavanagh. Luthor extends the invitation to Lois Lane to participate in the debate, allowing him to present his arguments globally.

In the closing stages, Lois comes very close to securing victory by hinting at revealing Luthor’s misdeeds on live television by involving her daughter. But, she cannot bring her into the picture because the discussion is abruptly ended due to Milton, or Brainiac, making an entrance. He seizes control of John Henry Irons’ suit, thereby halting the debate.

This year at FAN EXPO Philadelphia, it was announced at a panel by Cavanagh that he would appear in the show. He didn’t specify what role he’d play, but since he’s known for playing characters from The Flash, fans guessed he might reprise one of those roles. Instead, he opted to portray an entirely different character – Glorious Godfrey, a DC supervillain as depicted in the comics. What’s more, Cavanagh has also directed two episodes of Superman & Lois, expanding his influence within the series, according to SuperHeroHype.
