The first episode starts with McGee and the rest of the NCIS crew working independently. Alden Parker, portrayed by Gary Cole, enters the bullpen to find it deserted. While Jessica Knight is engaged in REACT training in California, and Nick Torres is undercover investigating a drug cartel, McGee remains in Washington D.C., vying for the NCIS Deputy Director position.
