As a long-time DC fan who has witnessed countless reboots and adaptations, I can’t help but feel a bit of nostalgia mixed with anticipation upon seeing the trailer for James Gunn’s Superman. However, when it comes to the connection between this new Superman movie and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, I must admit that my expectations were a tad higher (or perhaps lower, considering the rollercoaster ride that is DC’s cinematic universe).
At long last, we’ve got the first glimpse at James Gunn’s eagerly awaited Superman movie, which has generated a flurry of queries from fans about the film. One such question is whether the upcoming summer DCU superhero blockbuster will be linked to Robert Pattinson’s Batman series.
So, is the new Superman movie connected to Pattinson’s The Batman franchise? Here is the answer.
Is the new Superman movie connected to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman?
Indeed, it’s important to clarify that the upcoming Superman film starring David Corenswet has no connection to Robert Pattinson’s Batman series. They are separate entities within the DC Universe.
Initially, when James Gunn unveiled his plans for the DC Universe in 2023, he made it clear that the Matt Reeves’ series would have its own distinct timeline, falling under the broader category of the DC Elseworlds universe.
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn discussed his thoughts about involving Robert Pattinson’s Batman in his DC Universe. He stated, “I often consider many things, and I discuss them openly,” implying that he had pondered this possibility. (via Collider)
Instead of supervising the production of a Batman movie within the same DC Universe, Gunn is now focusing on the creation of a different Batman film, titled “The Brave and the Bold.” This upcoming project will be led by director Andrew Muschietti, known for his work on DCEU’s The Flash. In contrast to previous iterations, this movie will portray a well-established version of Batman and his interactions with the Bat family, particularly focusing on his relationship with his son, Robin (Damian Wayne).
It’s going to take some time before we see the DCU’s Batman, as the script is still in development and filming hasn’t started yet. As recently shared by Gunn, the script isn’t fully refined just yet.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming movie releases! It looks like The Batman Part II by Reeves is set to drop in October 2026, which gives me plenty of time to brush up on my detective skills. On the other hand, Gunn’s Superman is ready to take flight on July 11, 2025 – that’s less than four years away! I can hardly wait for these two superheroes to hit the big screen and share their epic adventures with us all.
In addition to Corenswet, the cast of Superman also includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Sara Sampaio, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Wendell Pierce, and Edi Gathegi.
