As a seasoned Elden Ring veteran, having traversed the Lands Between countless times and emerged victorious from countless grueling battles, I must say that the latest patch’s adjustments to Radahn have left me somewhat divided.
FromSoftware is well-recognized for numerous aspects, but showing kindness isn’t typically part of their repertoire. It can certainly seem as though the developers are determined to challenge you, especially when engaging with a Soulsborne game.
Following the rollout of the Elden Ring DLC, it’s intriguing that FromSoftware addressed fan criticism by subtly adjusting the game’s difficulty level.
Now, the latest patch includes a nerf to Radahn, the game’s hardest boss.
Why Radahn… Again?
It’s not a new occurrence that Radhan has undergone adjustments to make him less powerful, as his initial battle in the main game was deemed excessively difficult by many gamers, resulting in a nerf shortly following its launch.
In light of the intense battle, it seems only fair that I make some adjustments given:
This fight is hard, very hard. Though this is not the reason, I think he should be adjusted.
One swift maneuver from his repertoire particularly irked me: the cross-slash. This rapid attack is tricky to dodge since you must position yourself precisely or time your dodges impeccably in relation to Radahn.
Instead of carrying a talisman that offers temporary invulnerability during a backstep, thereby facilitating smoother dodging, remember that this comes at the cost of sacrificing one valuable talisman slot from your inventory.
However, I think everything else in this fight was reasonable. So was a nerf the right move?
Are People Missing The Point?
It seems some folks found this battle challenging, yet it strikes me as though a good number of them may not have ventured far enough into the world.
In Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware, players encounter obstacles that encourage them to seek improved equipment, potion enhancements, and new magic spells. Overcoming these challenges, then investigating further to discover a means to shatter the barriers, is the intended cycle in the gameplay of Elden Ring.
It seems a bit odd to appease an upset crowd by weakening the final boss; reducing the speed of the cross-slash instead could have sufficed.
I hope this is the last nerf…
