No, Lester Holt Wasn’t Fired From NBC Nightly News

Ever wondered if Lester Holt is moving on from NBC Nightly News or was let go? After a solid ten years at the helm of that show, he’s decided to hang up his anchor cap, which is quite a shift for the network. This move has got fans and industry experts buzzing alike.

Here’s what we know about Holt leaving, his future at NBC, and who might take over his role.

Was Lester Holt fired from NBC’s Nightly News?

Lester Holt is stepping down as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News after ten years.

In a memo to employees of Nightly News and Dateline, Holt revealed his intention to depart from his role by the summer of 2025. However, it’s important to note that he is not retiring; instead, he will continue working at NBC as the permanent anchor for Dateline NBC.

In June 2015, Holt assumed the role of permanent anchor for NBC Nightly News, succeeding Brian Williams. Prior to that, he had been anchoring the weekend editions of Nightly News for eight years and co-anchored Weekend TODAY for twelve years. The Executive Vice President of Programming at NBC News, Janelle Rodriguez, commended his leadership, referring to him as “the pulsing core” of their news organization.

For over a decade, and if you count weekends too, it’s been an honor anchoring Nightly News. But now, after much thought, I’ve decided it’s time for me to step down from that role. However, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be devoting my full energy to Dateline NBC as their anchor, a position I’ve held part-time till now. I can’t wait to deepen my involvement with the team at Dateline and make a bigger impact on our broadcasts.

According to NBC News, Tom Llamas has been chosen to succeed Holt in his role. Currently serving as a senior national correspondent for NBC News and anchoring Top Story with Tom Llamas on NBC News NOW, Llamas will assume Holt’s responsibilities.

Holt hasn’t specified an exact date for his last broadcast yet, but he hinted that it will be confirmed nearer to the summer. In other words, as we approach the summer, he promised to finalize the date and keep everyone updated.
