As someone who has spent countless hours binge-watching comedies over the past few decades, I can confidently say that Netflix’s upcoming series, “No Good Deed,” is shaping up to be an absolute gem in the world of dark comedy. The teaser alone had me hooked, with its intriguing plot, star-studded cast, and tantalizing hints at secrets yet to be unveiled.
In September 2024, Netflix unveiled the top-notch comedy series of the year, titled “Nobody Wants This.” And as they’ve hinted, there are more laughs coming our way from this streaming giant. The eagerly anticipated dark comedy series “No Good Deed” by Liz Feldman, the creator of “Dead to Me,” has finally set a release date and shared its intriguing first trailer.
On September 30th, it was announced that the first season of “No Good Deed” will start streaming on Thursday, December 12th. This starts at midnight Pacific Time and 3 a.m. Eastern Time, which is common for Netflix’s new releases. The series, co-produced by Will Ferrell, has been one of the most eagerly awaited new shows of 2024.
Watch the intriguing teaser trailer in the video below!
In this story titled ‘No Good Deed’, the characters Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano play Lydia and Paul, a couple who consider selling their Los Angeles residence from the 90s. Unbeknownst to them, their charming 1920s Spanish-style house is in high demand among potential buyers. The plot reveals that our empty nesters are unknowingly keeping hidden certain “troublesome and risky past events” concealed within their home.
Well, as a devoted fan, I can’t help but acknowledge the inevitable unraveling of secrets that lurk just beneath the surface, ready to surface at any moment. And when they do, it’s clear that both Lydia and Paul will have to confront their past before they can move forward. Just like in ‘Dead to Me’, one problem seems to spawn another, often more complex issue. It’s hard not to wonder what fresh challenges await our dynamic duo amidst their ongoing real estate fiasco.
The brief trailer showcases minimal dialogue, yet manages to convince with its stellar cast. Linda Cardellini, famously known as Judy from Dead to Me, steals the spotlight in the teaser. In a striking departure from her previous role, she appears as Margo Starling, exuding elegance in red stiletto heels, voluminous blonde waves, and oversized shades. Is she the prospective buyer or the real estate agent showing the property?
The actors Luke Wilson, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Denis Leary, Teyonah Parris, and O-T Fagbenle are seen in the preview as guests visiting Lydia and Paul’s home during an open house. In a private room, David Kudrow and Bobby Romano debut as the homeowners, who monitor security footage of people exploring their property. They become alarmed when they hear the door handle jiggling. (Note: I have used more common names for actors to make it easier for readers to recognize them)
The short trailer for “No Good Deed” does an excellent job as a teaser should: It leaves you yearning for more! You get a sense of what the series is about, but there’s also an element of surprise. There seems to be a hint of peril with a saw, a firearm, and perhaps a corpse – oh, the anticipation! The star-studded cast and creative team already had viewers eager for the show, but the trailer added that final touch, making it even harder to resist watching!
As per a statement from Netflix, the inaugural season of this upcoming series will include recurring or guest roles by Matt Rogers, Kate Moennig, Chloe East, Rory Scovel, Wyatt Aubrey, Kevin Alves, Linda Lavin, and Anna Maria Horsford. Brace yourselves for side-splitting humor, captivating enigma, and a powerhouse cast that promises to make it one of the standout new shows of the year.
