No, Donald Glover’s Lando Star Wars Project Wasn’t Canceled

As a long-time fan of Donald Glover and his remarkable talents, I must say that I am genuinely excited about the upcoming Lando movie. Despite the initial confusion caused by some misleading headlines, it is heartening to see that this project is finally moving forward, albeit in a different format than originally planned.

There’s been some debate online about the details surrounding Donald Glover’s forthcoming Lando project, as it was initially planned as a Disney+ series but later transformed into a movie last year.

The confusion stems from some poor aggregating of a new interview with Simien talking about the scrapped series. However, Simien hasn’t been involved in the upcoming Lando project for well over a year at this point and was simply talking about the iteration that was already known to not be moving forward.

Simien shared with Collider that the project was quite advanced, “We had a script, concept art, and even a Bible (outline or blueprint), but unfortunately, it didn’t work out as planned.”

Previously reported, this development isn’t surprising. Back in June 2023, it emerged that Simien had stepped away from the Lando project, with Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, taking charge of creative responsibilities and penning the production. In September 2023, an additional update followed: instead of a series, it was announced that it would be a film.

Earlier this year, Glover shared some news about Lando, expressing his joy at having ownership of the project. He explained that this situation enables him to maintain a clear and consistent creative direction, which he believes will result in a top-notch outcome for Lando.

The actor previously played the role of Lando Calrissian in the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.
