‘No country in world comes closer to India in having vibrant, rich culture of storytelling’: SS Rajamouli at WAVES Summit 2025

At the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit 2025 (WAVES), held in Mumbai on May 1, SS Rajamouli was a distinguished guest. Stepping onto the stage, he spoke to the crowd about India’s rich history of storytelling that spans over thousands of years. He highlighted the vast collection of stories found in our ancient texts like the Puranas and Itihasas, emphasizing the country’s immense narrative potential.

In simpler terms, the director of SSMB29 emphasized that India is home to numerous languages, each with a history spanning hundreds of years. He asserted that storytelling is deeply ingrained within the fabric of Indian culture. According to SS Rajamouli, no other nation on Earth can rival the depth and vitality of our storytelling tradition.

Nevertheless, the RRR director acknowledged that India hadn’t quite reached the same level as other nations globally. However, he firmly believed in India’s capabilities and thought it just required a solid platform to truly shine.

As a connoisseur of culture, I can’t help but marvel at the rich tapestry of our nation. Our country boasts an astonishing variety of languages, each with its own story spanning centuries. From the annals of our history, we have countless tales yet to be told, and an array of artistic expressions that number in the hundreds, if not more. In essence, the stories that make up our heritage are practically infinite.

As a connoisseur of global cultural landscapes, I cannot help but marvel at India’s extraordinary narrative tapestry. Our nation boasts an unparalleled wealth and vitality in the art of storytelling that is truly unique. However, on the international stage, our efforts often fall short when compared to powerhouses like the USA, South Korea, China, and others.

I am convinced of our potential—we simply require a platform from which to take flight. I eagerly anticipate that WAVES will serve as this much-needed launchpad for us to showcase our stories on a global scale.
