Nintendo Switch 2 won’t have an achievement/trophy system

It appears that many gamers are fond of earning achievements through challenge and reward systems on platforms like PlayStation (Trophies), Steam, and Xbox (Achievements). However, Nintendo has yet to implement such a system and it seems unlikely that it will be introduced for the Nintendo Switch 2. While individual games may still incorporate their own achievement systems, there won’t be a universal achievement feature for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The information originated from Polygon, who attended the Nintendo Switch 2 preview event in New York City last week. When they asked Nintendo Vice President of Player and Product Experience Bill Trinen if the Nintendo Switch 2 would incorporate an achievement system like other prominent gaming platforms, he replied straightforwardly with a “No.

On Nintendo’s latest console, individual game-specific achievements will still be available, but there seems to be no plan for a unified trophy system across all games, as seen on other consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Even Steam has adopted this trend, but Nintendo hasn’t followed suit yet, even dating back to the era of these consoles. A console-wide achievement system was once speculated, particularly around the time of the original Switch launch in 2017, but those rumors have not been substantiated since then.

In other words, if you’re a Nintendo player aiming to collect trophies or achievements, you’ll need developers to incorporate these features into their games at this point. Keep an eye out for updates on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, coming soon to Shacknews!
