Nintendo Switch 2 will have a setting to reduce battery deterioration

The struggle for long battery life is a persistent challenge in any wireless device, including Nintendo’s assortment of handheld consoles throughout the years. As time passes, it’s normal for batteries to lose their effectiveness, but Nintendo aims to address this problem with its upcoming console – the Switch 2. This new device will incorporate a unique feature that prevents it from charging past 90%, with the intention of minimizing battery degradation.

Wireless devices like Nintendo’s handheld consoles have always faced issues with battery life, and this is because batteries weaken over time. However, Nintendo plans to solve this problem with its upcoming console – the Switch 2 – by adding a feature that stops it from charging beyond 90% in order to reduce battery degradation.

In a recent Nintendo Today post, they unveiled a novel battery management feature for the upcoming Switch 2. Once enabled, the device will gradually reduce charging once the battery reaches 90%, eventually halting further charge. This feature can be easily accessed and adjusted by users via the System Settings menu, allowing them to toggle it on or off as needed.

In the settings for your Switch 2, you’ll find a new feature described as “extending the lifespan of the battery by limiting the usage time when not plugged in.” This helps prevent the battery from losing its capacity over an extended period.

Over time, wireless devices may show a decline in their batteries’ performance, causing users to frequently recharge them or even replace the battery completely. Leaving a device charging for an extended period can hasten this deterioration, and manufacturers like phone companies and now Nintendo have been taking measures to minimize this issue. As Nintendo unveils more information about Switch 2 prior to its June launch, Shacknews will keep you updated.
