Nintendo has unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming model of the Switch, referred to as the Switch 2. This new console, set to launch later this year, serves as an upgrade to the 2017 hybrid device. The design remains familiar but boasts a larger screen, reorganized buttons and speakers, as well as magnetic Joy-Cons for easy attachment.
This morning, we got our first glimpse at the trailer for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The video predominantly highlights improvements in its hardware design. Unlike the original model where Joy-Cons slide vertically along a track, they now detachably attach to the sides of the tablet. The console’s main body is primarily black, but it sports a red and blue accent around the analog sticks and Joy-Con controllers.
Nintendo has confirmed that the new Switch model (Switch 2) will support both physical and digital games originally designed for the original Switch. Yet, it’s important to note that certain Switch games may not work with the Switch 2.
During the unveiling of the Switch 2, Nintendo didn’t officially announce any new games, but they hinted at a potential new Mario Kart game towards the end of the trailer. A direct presentation for the Switch 2 is scheduled for April 2, 2025, and this event will be followed by hands-on experiences in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
