Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan is a bloodbath
According to IGN’s report, Japanese retailers are imposing stringent eligibility criteria for purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 due to its limited supply and overwhelming popularity. Moreover, these stores aim to prevent reselling (scalping) and ensure that the consoles reach genuine gamers who truly desire them.
As reported by the source, almost all Japanese retailers now make it mandatory for prospective customers to register their interest in purchasing the system. To do so, these potential buyers must not only be active members of the retailer but also have accrued a certain amount of spending at the store within the last two years.
To enter Bic Camera’s Nintendo Switch 2 lottery in Japan, customers must possess an active Bic Camera credit card and make purchases totaling more than 30,000 yen (approximately $207) from April 2023 to March 2025. Eligible customers can also participate in a separate online lottery for premium clients who have spent at least 50,000 yen ($345) within the same timeframe.
To enter the Nintendo Switch 2 lottery at Joshin’s electronics chain, customers must either be Platinum or VIP members of their loyalty programs. To become a Platinum member, you need to have spent approximately $1,030 (150,000 yen) within the past year.
Nintendo has openly expressed their regrets to their fans for not being able to provide enough Nintendo Switch 2 systems promptly. In a statement, company president Shuntaro Furukawa shared that they will work on manufacturing and distributing more of these units in the upcoming period. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delay in satisfying your expectations, and expressed gratitude for your patience and understanding.
