It seems there’s ongoing uncertainty about the Nintendo Switch 2, as it appears that some, if not all, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game cartridges might be compatible with the original Nintendo Switch released in 2017.
According to Marvelous Games, as reported by Does it Play, the physical cartridge for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Switch 2 Edition is compatible with all Nintendo Switch consoles.
It’s been verified that the freshly introduced red game cartridges for the latest gaming console can be smoothly used with the older model. The innovative notch design on these cartridges doesn’t pose a problem when it comes to compatibility with the older hardware, as long as they contain software suitable for that system.
According to the publisher, the ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ is a 64GB game card that comes in red. This special edition includes both the Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack all in one. You don’t have to download the entire game; just slide the card into either a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and it will automatically launch the appropriate version for your system.
In other words, these new editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, for Nintendo Switch 2, are expected to function similarly.
With the complete game and upgrade pack for the games already incorporated into the new release cartridges, it’s reasonable to assume they might be cross-compatible. But, it’s important to note that Nintendo has not officially confirmed this compatibility yet.
The discovery that Switch 2 game cartridges are compatible with the original Switch for appropriate software represents an additional instance of confusing communication from Nintendo regarding their new console.
