Nintendo reveals Emio – The Smiling Man as a new Famicom Detective Club game

As a longtime fan of the Famicom Detective Club series, I was absolutely thrilled when Nintendo dropped a mysterious teaser last week about a potential new horror game for the Switch. But little did we know that it was something even more exciting – a brand-new mystery detective game called Emio – The Smiling Man!

Last week, Nintendo generated buzz with an unexpected hint about a potential horror game for Nintendo Switch. While not entirely accurate, it was a close guess. In contrast, Nintendo officially announced Emio – The Smiling Man today, unveiling a new mystery detective title within the Famicom Detective Club franchise. This upcoming release marks one of the first new games in the series in years and is set to drop on Nintendo Switch in August.

Nintendo provided a detailed look into Emio: The Smiling Man – Famicom Detective Club, an upcoming game from longtime series producer Yoshio Sakamoto, in a revealing video. The title will be available globally starting August 29, 2024. In this intriguing tale, players delve into the enigma of the Smiling Man, a urban legend who offers paper bags with smiles to young women reportedly feeling down. As the boundaries between myth and fact blur, it’s up to the players to uncover the truth behind this captivating legend.

After Nintendo and Sakamoto refreshed the original Famicom Detective Club games with updated visuals and audio a few years ago, their enthusiasm to develop a new title in the series emerged during the remake process. This new game, named Emio – The Smiling Man, was born from their dedication to preserving the investigative essence and storyline progression of the classic series while giving it a modern makeover that we appreciated in our Shacknews review. In the video, Sakamoto disclosed this development during their work on the remakes.

“Emio: The Smiling Man represents the collective knowledge and concepts gained from our past projects by my esteemed team and myself. According to Sakamoto, they are putting maximum effort into crafting an exceptional script and bringing it to life through top-notch animations for this new game.”

Keep an eye out for updates and announcements regarding Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, scheduled to be released in August. We’ll bring you the latest news and information as it becomes available, right up until the game hits the shelves.
