Nintendo (NTDOY) is building a framework for a consistent movie release cadence

Nintendo’s return to filmmaking was a huge success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide. They plan to keep that success going with a Super Mario Galaxy movie in 2026 and a Legend of Zelda movie in 2027. Nintendo has confirmed they want to regularly release movies in the future.

During a recent business update, Nintendo discussed its plans for future movies. The update included images of posters for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” and “The Legend of Zelda” movie. Two empty spaces with question marks suggest that Nintendo is planning even more films, and the company confirmed they are “continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.”

As a huge Nintendo fan, I wasn’t at all surprised to hear they’re planning to make more movies! The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a massive hit last year and really helped Nintendo’s bottom line. Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, even mentioned a while back that they’re already working on turning more of their games into films, which is awesome news!

Nintendo has announced its next movie will be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, scheduled for release in April 2026. They’re partnering with Universal Pictures and Illumination for this project, and plan to follow it up with a live-action Zelda movie made with Sony in 2027.
