Right now, Nintendo is actively developing not just one but two feature films: one based on The Legend of Zelda at Sony Pictures, and a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie at Universal Pictures. But that’s not all! Beyond these two projects, Nintendo has also confirmed they are exploring numerous possibilities in the visual medium, suggesting there may be more movie news on the horizon.
As a dedicated Nintendo fan, I’m thrilled to share that our beloved President Shuntaro Furukawa has hinted at a plethora of non-gaming ventures on the horizon! In a recent Q&A session, he mentioned that while details about projects beyond The Legend of Zelda movie remain under wraps for now, there’s definitely more brewing behind the scenes. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for exciting updates from Nintendo!
Furukara stated that Nintendo’s recent ventures outside gaming are an initiative aimed at extending access to Nintendo’s intellectual properties (IP) to a broad audience. He further discussed Nintendo’s active role in these adaptations, as they have been deeply engaged in transforming their video games into films.
In 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was one of the top-earning films, and its follow-up is scheduled for release in just under a year. Keep an eye out for updates about more Nintendo movie projects right here on Shacknews.
