Nintendo has shared plans for a substantial reduction of the My Nintendo Gold Points program within the upcoming months.
Nintendo Is Phasing Out Gold Points – Only Available Until March 2025
Beginning on March 25, 2025, Gold Points will no longer be given out for digital transactions. If you wish to accumulate or utilize these points, it’s advisable to do so before then.
The rewards system enables gamers to accumulate Gold Points upon buying digital Nintendo Switch games and add-ons. These points can subsequently be utilized in either the Nintendo eShop or My Nintendo Store for either discounts or benefits. But, starting from March 2025, this method of gaining new points will no longer be available.
As a loyal fan, if you’ve already accumulated Gold Points, rest assured! Your points will continue to be valid for an entire 12 months. So whether you’re eyeing that highly-anticipated game release or just adding another remaster to your collection (yes, the one you’ve bought three times), you can still redeem your points all the way up until March 2026!
Are There Any Exceptions?
Luckily, Nintendo has made it clear that a handful of instances exist where Gold Points can still be accumulated past the specified deadline.
- Pre-orders: If you pre-order a digital game or DLC before the deadline, you will still receive Gold Points.
- Physical games: Titles released before the cutoff date will still grant Gold Points if registered.
- Specific console purchases: Buying a Nintendo Switch (OLED model) in White or Customized, a personalized Nintendo Switch, or a Nintendo Switch Lite in Yellow, Turquoise, Gray, Coral, or Blue from the My Nintendo Store before the deadline will still grant Gold Points after the product has shipped.
If you’d like to maximize your points, there’s still some time left. However, considering Nintendo’s past practice of phasing out reward programs discreetly, it remains unclear if Gold Points will be replaced with something similar in the future.
